Why am having to transcribe this post using voice-recognition software? I can't use a keyboard anymore because the Goldmine Shithouse show at Subliminal Projects is so good it melted the eyeballs right out of my head. The show is made up of maybe eight large-scale pieces, three ladder sculptures and a whole boatload of smaller pieces on paper and wood, all made during their 10-day residency at 1269 Gallery and every single one of which is good. Most of the work is some combination of painting, drawing, printmaking or collage, and the show is surprisingly cohesive and thematic given that every work is a collaboration. Zombies, ladders, shopping carts and wolves abound, as does printed and hand-lettered type. It's like a perfect gumbo. I'm going back at least twice before the show ends on Nov. 11.
